Transcription: The Internet was started as an experimental network in 1969 by DARPA, an agency of the U.S. Department of Defense. This network was called ARPANET. For defense reasons, the U.S. Department of Defense wanted a network that was geographically dispersed and able to function if part of the network was destroyed. So, ARPANET designed a redundant network so that a message could travel many different paths to get to its final destination. Sound familiar?
